Preseason Game #2
TV: YES, CSNNE, NBA-TV
Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
The Celtics are coming off of a big win over the 0-2 Philadelphia 76ers and now face the 2-0 New Jersey Nets who beat those same Sixers 103-96.   After being the laughing stock of the league last season, the Nets have looked good in their first two preseason games under new coach Avery Johnson.  But the competition wasn't all that great in their first two games either.

The Celtics looked very good in their first game as they swamped the Sixers 93-65.  Pierce and Rondo both left the game with physical complaints that didn't appear to be serious.   Both are expected to play in this game.   Playing in the second of back to back games shouldn't be a problem at this point since no starter played more 20 minutes (Ray and Rondo) and Shaq and KG were held to 15 minutes.  The Boston Bench Mob was impressive in their debut as was the Celtics defense.

We can expect more of the same in this game.  The starters will play 20 minutes or less and Doc will get an extended look at his young players and the players who are on the bubble.  Hopefully we will have the same result in this game as well.

Semih Erden Semih Erden impressed all the way around in his first game against the Sixers.  Can he do it two games in a row?  With JO out, he'll get his chance.

[image] Shaq looked rejuvenated in his first game as a Celtic.  He was running the floor and playing with a lot of energy.  But then again, the Sixers bigs didn't pose a big threat.  Against the Nets, he'll have a bigger challenge against one of the best young big men in the league in Brook Lopez.

Von Wafer   Doc, and Celtics fans, will be watching the trio of Von Wafer, Stephane Lasme, and Mario West as all 3 are fighting for that final roster spot.  Will any of the three stand out? Lasme impressed in game 1, can he do it again?

[image] In his 3rd season, Brook Lopez is one of the best young centers in the league and will be a good early test for the Celtics new front line

[image] Derrick Favors was the #3 pick in the draft and at 6'10" with a 7'4" wingspan, they are expecting a lot from him but can he guard Kevin Garnett? With Murphy out with a groin injury, Favors will get a chance to play.

[image]   There may be a battle over the PG position between Jordan Farmar and Devin Harris. Both have similar stats and this will be a good test against the Celtics PG's.  Harris is listed as day to day with a foot injury so we may see a lot of Farmar in this one.
