Celtics Come Out Sharp in Pre-Season Opener

After a long off-season, the Celtics are back again and showed tonight that they aren't messing around. Boston won their first tune-up game over Philadelphia 93-65. The whole team looked sharp, especially Ray Allen who scored 14 points in only 16 minutes, while reeling in a team-high eight boards. Glen "Big Baby" Davis and newcomer Semih Erden also impressed. Both Davis and the Turkish center poured in 13 points from the field. Erden also converted 7 of his 8 shots from the charity stripe.

The Celts came out hot, making six of their first nine shots to take a 12-2 lead. The team continued to play well and took a 19-9 point lead into the second the quarter. Captain Paul Pierce scored six of his eight points in the opening frame.

Boston continued to impress in the second quarter, and led by a whopping 27 points at halftime. Rather than letting up, the reserves continued to push and opened the lead to 70-40 through three quarters. The C's did get outscored in the fourth quarter, 23-25, but Stephane Lasme impressed by scoring 12 points and knocking down six of his seven free throws.

Occasionally the camera would shift over to the bench in the second half to show KG screaming in support of his teammates on.  All in all it was an impressive inital performance for the Celtics.  Catch their next pre-season game tomorrow night in New Jersey at 7:00 PM ET.
