Countdown: 58 Days 'Til the Regular Season

58 days remain until the Celtics and Heat face-off on opening night. Now that the draft and most of free agency is over there is a lot of down time. Personally, I've tried to kill this painful waiting time by remodeling my blog and watching the Red Sox fall out of the postseason race.

Many names have been thrown around regarding who will fill the one open spot left on the C's roster. Rudy Fernandez, Delonte West, Larry Hughes, and even JR Smith have been rumored  to be possible additions to the team. Realistically, I think West and Hughes are the only ones who may don the green and white this season.

West would provide solid defense and an outside shooter off the bench, but most importantly some insight as to the truth about him and LeBron's mom. Hughes, on the other hand, would contribute as a slasher type 2-3 man with a good enough jumper to keep the defender honest. However, his "experience" certainly wouldn't be making Boston any younger and he's had terrible injury problems over the course of his career. Hughes hasn't played more than 40 games in any of the past six seasons.

Between financials and playing time, I believe Hughes to be the likely 15th man. It would be nice to fill out the roster with an impact player, but I've got a bad feeling that it's just going to be another benchwarmer. As unexciting as it may be, it's all we have as C's fans with Rondo off the USA team as the dog days of summer come to an end.
