Jermaine & Marquis, Neither of y'all can wear #7

"They should be good, but they ain't done nothing yet," Rondo said after a recent practice during Team USA's minicamp. "They ain't done nothing."

"What is there to be nervous for?" he said. "I'm worried about L.A. That's the team we need to beat. Miami looks really good on paper, and I'm sure they're going to be really good. But they still have to come together as a team. I'm not saying they won't, but who knows if those guys can jell?

"Our biggest opponent each night is ourselves - that's how I look at it. Not to be cocky or anything, but that's how we honestly feel. We are the defending [Eastern] champs. Once the first game of the regular season starts, that's irrelevant. But we are going to go into training camp looking to get back to the Finals and win it."
I have no problem with Rondo's confidence here... or cockiness some would say. What is he supposed to say, that the season's over? Of course not. With that said, the more I look at this Heat roster the more I believe it has the potential to win 71 games. Essentially its like if you took the Cavs roster of the past couple years, which averaged 63.5 wins, but replaced players like Anthony Parker and Antawn Jamison with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh respectively. I expect them to finish games with Wade, Miller, Lebron, Bosh, and Haslem on the floor and I also expect them to pull a 2008 Celtics and pick up an additional solid point guard and center after the trade deadline. In the meantime Chalmers, Arroyo, Anthony, Big Z, and Howard will be able to hold down the fort. This team is going to be TOUGH, but if the Celtics could somehow derail them, how sweet would that be?

Like you said, Heat looks good on paper but they still have to come together as a team. I don't think it will be hard for them to do, but you never know in sports. Rondo can talk all he wants, he's more than earned the right to talk about the opposition. But he still believes that Boston has to get "better" first, then worry about who MAY be better.

  2. The I Believe In Boston bit looked a lot better in this "post a comment" box than it does up there, sorry =]. I BELIEVE IN BOSTON!!!

  3. That's not cocky-it's the truth. They haven't done a thing. And yes-they need to gel as a team. Rondo isn't afraid of them and why should he be? He kicked D-Wade and Lebron's ass in the playoffs. You don't see him bragging. He made the cover of SI and was called "The best all-around pointguard in the league" by Magic Johnson on national television. Rondo just plays his game and lets his work do the talking. More players should follow his example.

I wish Miami was in the West.

    Rondo stay in Celtics,please

Let's not forget Kobe, shaq, payton and malone. See how well that worked out? EXACTLY! A title for a team full of superstars is NOT a foregone conclusion.

  7. tb727 says:

EvZilla- I love your optimism, but both Payton and Malone were shells of their former self in 2004. And Bean and Shaq really started disliking each other that year more than ever, before Shaq demanded a trade.

This Heat team will be like no other in recent history with 3 of the top 12 guys, and 2 of the top 4 overall in the league, in their primes.

You gotta love Rondo. He's telling it like it is plain and simple. The Celtics aren't thinking about Miami. They're thinking about the Lakers and getting back to the finals to win it all. Media wants to keep making a big deal about the Heat. The Celtics have more important things on their mind. The Heat hasn't done anything yet.

I'm with Rondo. As far as I am concerned, the team to beat in the East is the DEFENDING WORLD CHAMPS-the Celtics. Nuff said. (Lord I hope I'm right, lol)

  10. Anonymous says:

Okay not the WORLD CHAMPS in reality, but in my sick little world where the LAKERS don't exist. LOL....Still...I am confident that the Celtics will be able to manage and eliminate the Heat. We'll see...
