Celtics should make a play for Rudy Fernandez

Three years ago in the draft Phoenix had a first round pick they didn't want. They sold it to the Blazers who happily drafted Rudy Fernandez. I was bummed, because that was the second straight year a guy I wanted the Celtics to get was sold from the Suns to the Blazers for simply cash (the year before it was Sergio Rodriguez). Could a sharp shooting, high flying, hard nose defending wing have helped us a year ago when Pierce was overused? Or this year when we struggled to hold onto a 13 point lead and the championship? Nothing we can do about the past now, but according to the New York Times the Blazers and Knicks are discussing a Rudy Fernandez deal. The problem is the Blazers want a first rounder in return and the Knicks don't own one.

Well Danny Ainge owns one and reportedly he's not enamored with what's available at #19 and is looking to trade the pick. Look Danny, I know you never go for the guys I ask for (Brandon Roy, Sergio, Rudy, Chalmers, Birdman, J-Will, Barnes,  retaining Powe, Raja) and I know the guys you have gotten instead (Telfair, P.O.B, Giddens, Marquis, Shelden, Mikki, Nate, Finley) have been awesome and all, but how about just this one time get us my man please?

Rudy Fernandez is one of the best 3 point shooters in the league (39%). He's only 24 and with Rondo would form the most exciting young backcourt in the game. Alley-oops galore and amazing passes in abundance. On Portland he's stuck behind Brandon Roy, but in Boston he could either start at the 2 or get about 30 minutes off the bench backing up Ray and Paul. Plus Fernandez is used to playing on big stages in Europe and I believe he'd thrive off playing in the Garden. Let's get Rudy.
