The "New" Bench

With the trade of Eddie House, J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker for Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry the Celtics bench suddenly looks a bit different heading towards the stretch run. House a key player on the team since '07-08 because of his three point shooting, team spirit and positive energy is now gone.  Eddie will be missed for sure but the Celtics get back an explosive talent that should be able to handle producing some consistent points off the bench, something the second unit has been lacking.
Plain and simple, Rasheed Wallace is starting to do more than bother me. His decisions in terms of shot selection last night besides his spin move off the left block on the baseline against Pau Gasol have been flat out awful.  I am wondering what the conversations between him and Doc Rivers are like in regards to his offensive performance.  Two out of every three times Sheed touches the ball should be on the block posting up. When he posts strong he gets to his spots and really puts the defense in a compromising position.  The 18 foot fade away jumpers and over abundance of 3's need to stop and stop now.

Marquis Daniels is clearly searching for his rhythm which I am confident he will find and playing along side Robinson will take some pressure off of him as far as being the only capable ball handler and distributor on the second unit.  A line up of Robinson, Daniels and Tony Allen at the one, two and three positions for 3-4 minutes at a time could be very quick and effective but if Robinson is dominating the ball with the dribble the spot up options are limited.  The second unit needs to play off of Robinson's penetration ability and Sheed's post up ability.  Both Daniels and Allen are capable of scoring in the flow of the game by slashing through the paint and getting to the basket on the drive.  A concern I have is that Glen Davis and Sheed are going to become pedestrian jump shooters.  Davis proved last year he can be an effective pick n pop player.  He is much more suited for that on a consistent basis than he is being a post up player as he has really been struggling around the basket. (Paging Leon Powe, paging Leon Powe)  Davis on the pick n pop with Sheed on the post is what needs to happen with this unit.  Tony Allen has been playing fairly well so this could turn out to be a good move, but they have got to attack and defend with a whole lot of energy and intensity for that to occur.
When the season started we all spoke of how excited we were about our depth and chemistry, now it is time for both of those things to kick in so the Green can make a run at this thing.
