What! I can't bring guns to work?
"I had kept the four unloaded handguns in my house in Virginia, but then moved them over to my locker at the Verizon Center to keep them away from my young kids,"  "I brought them without any ammunition into the District of Columbia, mistakenly believing that the recent change in the DC gun laws allowed a person to store unloaded guns in the District......I took the unloaded guns out in a misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate."-Gilbert Arenas
Being a DC area native, I've witnessed first hand the depressing history of DC area sports. People in the nations capital are starving for a winner, and even more so, an athlete they can be proud of. This makes the Gilbert Arenas situation that much more sad. Though the whole story is still being sorted out, we do know for sure that Gilbert brought guns into his place of employment. We don't know for sure why, or the true circumstances, but the simple fact that he had guns in his locker needs to be punished and punished severely.

Gilbert, or Agent Zero as he likes to call himself, was a hero around this city. Before Ovechkin, he was the most popular athlete in town and though he never really has won anything as a Wizard, he was its brightest star. Now a lot of people have turned against him and for good reason. Whether or not the guns were loaded or he was "playing a joke" it's still unacceptable.

Can you imagine if one of us brought a handgun into work. Not only would we be fired on the spot, but also thrown in jail with no questions asked. Yes, the locker room is a little different than your cubicle, but the fact remains that bad things can happen if guns are left out and unsecured.
Also, the fact that he claims he put the guns in his locker to get them away from his kids is laughable. Do you honestly think we believe that a person with $100 million plus can't afford a gun safe? Don't insult our intelligence Gilbert. All this about not knowing the law is a bunch of BS too. What about common sense? He can't be stupid enough to think bringing guns into the locker room is okay.

The big question is what David Stern is going to do about all this. I'm hoping he gets suspended for the rest of the season and they void the rest of his contract. Stern has been known as a disciplinarian in the past, and he needs to set an example here. If he doesn't suspend Arenas for the season that sets a terrible precedent to not only the rest of the NBA, but to the fans as well. If he goes easy on Arenas it will be a crushing blow to a league that has already seen its share of bad publicity.

Arenas as a player has done very little for the Wizards organization. Sure, he's a big name and has scored a bunch of points, but the Wizards haven't won anything since he has been here. He is the type of NBA player that gives the league a bad rap. A person who is all about himself, even giving himself nicknames. The NBA can't afford to not suspend Gilbert for the remainder of the year and I am confident they will

    NBA Suspends Arenas Indefinitely

"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game. Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA."

  2. Ya, just heard that. I wrote this around noon so I don't think it was announced at that point.

Definitely a good decision by Stern.

The wholeAny Given Sunday fake shootout thing with his teammates yesterday probably wasn't the wisest move on Gilbert's part? I wonder if his teammates suggested that to get him gone. lol.

It's an awesome article that you wrote Karl and I hope Stern suspends Arenas for the rest of the year

Bohemian, we need you to start posting some more. I'll make a graphic called "Bohemian's Breaking News" :)

I don't really get this, is this really any worse than when Telfair tried to bring a loaded gun on the plane? What did he get like 5 games for that?

These guns weren't even loaded and Arenas is a prankster, I think an "indefinite suspension" is a bit much, especially considering Stephen Jackson only got a mere 30 games for punching fans.

  8. Karl Dillinger says:

I think it's because we don't know what really happened with this and it could've been much worse. Stephen Jackson should've had the same punishment and would've if it happened now.

By the way today is Gilbert's 28th birthday.

  9. tb727 says:

Would Jackson get that today? I mean Artest got the whole season that year why didn't Jackson? They were equally insane but Artest gets it because he went into the stands first?

I don't know what to make of it other than I wish this would've happened to Shannon Brown.

You're forgetting something. All NBA suspensions are in direct proportion to how much media publicity the offense gets
