Do the Right Thing David Stern

What! I can't bring guns to work?
"I had kept the four unloaded handguns in my house in Virginia, but then moved them over to my locker at the Verizon Center to keep them away from my young kids,"  "I brought them without any ammunition into the District of Columbia, mistakenly believing that the recent change in the DC gun laws allowed a person to store unloaded guns in the District......I took the unloaded guns out in a misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate."-Gilbert Arenas
Being a DC area native, I've witnessed first hand the depressing history of DC area sports. People in the nations capital are starving for a winner, and even more so, an athlete they can be proud of. This makes the Gilbert Arenas situation that much more sad. Though the whole story is still being sorted out, we do know for sure that Gilbert brought guns into his place of employment. We don't know for sure why, or the true circumstances, but the simple fact that he had guns in his locker needs to be punished and punished severely.

Gilbert, or Agent Zero as he likes to call himself, was a hero around this city. Before Ovechkin, he was the most popular athlete in town and though he never really has won anything as a Wizard, he was its brightest star. Now a lot of people have turned against him and for good reason. Whether or not the guns were loaded or he was "playing a joke" it's still unacceptable.

Can you imagine if one of us brought a handgun into work. Not only would we be fired on the spot, but also thrown in jail with no questions asked. Yes, the locker room is a little different than your cubicle, but the fact remains that bad things can happen if guns are left out and unsecured.
Also, the fact that he claims he put the guns in his locker to get them away from his kids is laughable. Do you honestly think we believe that a person with $100 million plus can't afford a gun safe? Don't insult our intelligence Gilbert. All this about not knowing the law is a bunch of BS too. What about common sense? He can't be stupid enough to think bringing guns into the locker room is okay.

The big question is what David Stern is going to do about all this. I'm hoping he gets suspended for the rest of the season and they void the rest of his contract. Stern has been known as a disciplinarian in the past, and he needs to set an example here. If he doesn't suspend Arenas for the season that sets a terrible precedent to not only the rest of the NBA, but to the fans as well. If he goes easy on Arenas it will be a crushing blow to a league that has already seen its share of bad publicity.

Arenas as a player has done very little for the Wizards organization. Sure, he's a big name and has scored a bunch of points, but the Wizards haven't won anything since he has been here. He is the type of NBA player that gives the league a bad rap. A person who is all about himself, even giving himself nicknames. The NBA can't afford to not suspend Gilbert for the remainder of the year and I am confident they will
