NBA News: Nets to fire Frank

It would be a dubious end, but Nets coach Lawrence Frank may cap his tenure in New Jersey how he started it -- with a record.

The Nets, mired in a historic 16-loss slide to start their season, will fire Frank early this week, Yahoo! Sports has reported.
The Nets face the Lakers in Los Angeles on Sunday night in a bid to avoid matching the NBA record for losses to start a season.
Frank, whose Nets helped him set an NBA mark by winning 13 straight games to begin his stint with the team, is in the final year of a contract that pays him $4 million this season.
The Nets will deliver the news to Frank, the longest tenured coach in the Eastern Conference, at some point when the team returns to New Jersey, the report said, citing multiple unnamed sources.
Though support remains within the Nets organization for assistant coach John Loyer, general manager Kiki Vandeweghe will likely take over, starting with Wednesday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks, the report said.

0-16 can do that to a coach sometimes. In Frank's defense they've had so little talent and so many injuries this year. On the other hand, they had some talent a couple years ago and they underperformed, so in terms of NBA coach tenures, he's lasted longer than many. Expect to see him in the booth for a while and then back on the sidelines next year. Curious to see how Kiki does now.
